Canada Orders Deportation of Abhijeet Kingra in AP Dhillon House Firing Case
The Canadian court and immigration department have deemed Abhijeet Kingra a significant and serious threat to the country's internal security.
Ottawa: The Canadian government has taken significant action in the case of the firing at the Canadian home of renowned Punjabi singer AP Dhillon. Accused shooter Abhijeet Kingra, associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, has been ordered to be deported from Canada to India.
What did the court say?
The Canadian court issued this ruling, deeming him a threat to national security. The Canadian court and immigration department have deemed Abhijeet a significant and serious threat to the country's internal security.
After ruling that Abhijeet was a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, the Canada's Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) has ordered the deportation of Indian national Abhijeet Kingra.
In its decision, the board clarified that he is a member of the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang, an organised criminal group allegedly involved in criminal activities such as murder, extortion, shootings, arson, and intimidation.
What is the case?
During a hearing, the Canadian IRB found that he was involved in a shooting in British Columbia, in which 14 rounds of ammunition were fired. According to the board, one of his accomplices also set fire to a homeowner's vehicles during the incident. Kingra and his accomplice also face charges in connection with a similar incident in Surrey, British Columbia.
What did the Canadian police say?
The Canada Border Services Agency stated that more than 400 investigations have been initiated into cases related to extortion and gang violence, and several suspects have been deported from the country.
Investigative agencies also said that the Bishnoi gang's activities have been particularly active in areas of Canada such as British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario.
The gang is accused of involvement in crimes such as drug trafficking, contract killings, and extortion. Canadian officials also stated that despite being in prison, Lawrence Bishnoi continues to operate his network and recruit new youth.
What about Abhijeet Kingra?
Abhijeet Kingra is an Indian citizen who was living in Canada on a student visa. Canadian authorities arrested him in October 2024 in connection with a shooting and arson attack at AP Dhillon’s residence in Colwood, British Columbia. He is currently serving a six-year sentence.
