Bangladesh's Muhammad Yunus mentions India's 'seven sisters' in exit speech

What did Yunus say in his speech?
Bangladesh's outgoing interim adviser Muhammad Yunus stepped down in a farewell broadcast to the nation before handing over to an elected government.
"Today, the interim government is stepping down," the Nobel Peace Prize winner said.
"But let the practice of democracy, freedom of speech, and fundamental rights that has begun not be halted," the 85-year-old leader said.
In his final address before handing over power, Yunus referred to India's northeastern states, popularly known as the "Seven Sisters", without naming India directly.
"Our open sea is not only a geographical boundary, it is an open door to engage with the world economy for Bangladesh. This region along with Nepal, Bhutan and the Seven Sisters has great economic potential."
What did Yunus say about Bangladesh?
In his 25 minute speech, Yunus, said that, "Bangladesh is no longer a country with submissive foreign policy or dependent on the instructions and advice of other countries, today's Bangladesh is confident, active, and responsible in protecting its independent interests."
A day ahead of the interim government handing over power to the new government, Yunus said, "Through economic zones, trade agreements, and access to duty-free markets, a strong foundation will be established for this region to become a global manufacturing hub."
On August 5, 2024, the students' movement overthrew Sheikh Hasina's government. After which the interim government of Mohammad Yunus lasted for about 18 months.
When is the oath ceremony?
Bangladesh Nationalist Party's Tarique Rahman, the son former premier Khaleda Zia, will take oath of office as Bangladesh's Prime Minister along with his cabinet members on Tuesday.
The oath ceremony will take place at 4 pm on Tuesday at South Plaza of Parliament House, Dhaka. President Mohammad Shahabuddin will administer the oath to Tarique Rahman and his cabinet. Before that, the oath of new MPs will take place at 10 am. And there is also a parliamentary party meeting of BNP on the same day – there Tarique will be formally elected as the leader.
