UAN Activation Shifts to UMANG App, EPFO Website Facility Discontinued

New Delhi: UAN (Universal Account Number) has now become more important than ever for crores of account holders associated with the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). However, a significant change has occurred: the EPFO website no longer directly completes the UAN activation process. For this, users have to take the help of UMANG app, which is proving to be a new experience for many people.
Is UAN no longer activated from the EPFO website?
The option to activate UAN is still visible on the member portal of EPFO, but after clicking on it, no further process takes place. Instead, users are asked to activate the UMANG app. That means now this work has become completely mobile app based.
Why is it important to activate UAN?
Without activating UAN, access to PF account information is not possible. Employees cannot see how much contribution is being credited to their account every month. Apart from this, tasks like withdrawing PF after leaving the job, transferring an old account to a new account and updating KYC cannot be done without an active UAN.
What are the things required for activation?
To activate UAN, some important information has to be prepared in advance. This includes UAN number, Aadhaar number and mobile number linked to Aadhaar. The entire process has been made secure through OTP verification.
How to activate UAN from UMANG app?
First of all download or open UMANG app on your mobile. After this go to EPFO service section and select ‘UAN Activation’ option. Here, you have to enter your UAN number, Aadhaar number, and registered mobile number. After this, an OTP will come on your mobile, after entering which, activation can be completed by following the instructions given on the screen.
What has changed in this new system?
Previously, the website completed this process, but it has now transitioned to the mobile app. The change has made the process easier, but for users who are not used to using the app, there may be some difficulty in the beginning.

Users should ensure that their mobile number is linked to Aadhaar and is working properly. Also, use only the official UMANG app, so that any kind of fraud can be avoided.
