Overall, the scheme will directly support nearly 1,000 women. Selected sites provide strong transport links and job accessibility. Work is expected to commence shortly.

Planned amenities include 24x7 security with CCTV, Wi-Fi and medical rooms. Gym, library and common study zones have also been included. In 2019, two hostels opened in Patiala and Ludhiana with an investment of Rs.35 crore. Over 200 women benefitted from reduced accommodation cost. Many saved between 40 and 50 percent. Neha Sharma, a resident, said she pays Rs.3,500 instead of Rs.8,000 previously. Learning from feedback, the government has expanded planning. Experts say earlier results helped improve strategy.

Economists believe women contribute more effectively when free from basic worries like housing. Easier access to urban jobs may improve female participation.
