Punjab has achieved record GST growth in the first half of 2025-26, registering 22.35% against the national average of 6%. Strong reforms, transparency, and tax administration reforms ensured success.

Punjab News: Punjab government, under CM Bhagwant Mann, has delivered a record-breaking GST growth of 22.35% in the first six months of 2025-26. Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced that the state collected ₹13,971 crore during April-September, which is ₹2,553 crore higher than last year. The state’s growth is nearly four times the national average of 6%. This achievement has placed Punjab among the leading states in GST revenue growth. It highlights strong policy execution, effective administration, and the government’s ability to push reforms even in challenging times.

Indirect Taxes Show Strong Progress

Apart from GST, Punjab also registered positive growth in other tax categories. VAT and CST collections increased by 10%, while Punjab State Development Tax recorded an 11% rise. These figures confirm that reforms are showing results across the board. The government’s efficient tax management has ensured higher revenue without adding extra burden on citizens. This performance demonstrates Punjab’s commitment to honest governance and effective policy implementation, boosting confidence among businesses and taxpayers alike.

Tough Action Against Tax Fraud

Punjab taxation department has cracked down on tax evasion aggressively. Between April and September 2025, illegal input tax credits worth ₹246 crore were blocked. Four major FIRs were registered against large-scale fraudsters. Road inspections and preventive drives collected fines worth ₹355.72 crore, which is 134% higher than last year. These strict steps have created fear among tax evaders and improved compliance significantly. The results clearly show that strict monitoring and zero tolerance for fraud have helped stabilize revenue.

Honest Policies Strengthen Trust

Finance Minister Cheema credited these achievements to the Punjab government’s transparent and honest policies. With corruption-free systems and hardworking tax officials, Punjab has moved ahead of many states. Businesses now trust the system, knowing that their taxes are used for development. Transparency has not only increased revenue but also enhanced Punjab’s image as a state that values fairness, discipline, and accountability in governance. The government’s dedication has strengthened public trust in its economic vision.

Overcoming National And Global Challenges

Despite global slowdown, weak consumer demand, and tariff impacts on exports, Punjab’s revenue growth did not stop. Even during the war-like crisis in May 2025, the state recorded strong numbers. This reflects Punjab’s resilience and efficient financial management. The government proved that even in tough times, reforms can continue and development can be achieved. Punjab’s growth story is now an example for other states to follow in terms of balancing reforms with resilience.

Vision For Future Growth

The state plans to further modernize tax administration with technology, digital tracking, and stronger monitoring. Honest taxpayers will be supported, while defaulters will face strict actions. Punjab’s long-term vision is to maintain steady growth through transparent governance and continuous reforms. With record GST numbers, the government has proven its ability to handle finances strongly. This is a clear sign that Punjab is prepared for more growth, setting new benchmarks for India’s economic progress.
