Punjab Gears Up to Lead the Nation in Sports with New International Stadiums in Amritsar and Jalandhar: CM Mann
The government will also develop over 3,000 sports stadiums across the state and promote sports as a tool against drug abuse. Mann highlighted Punjab’s rich sporting history, honoring athletes who brought pride to the state and country.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has once again confirmed that his government’s main goal is to make Punjab the center of sports in India. Speaking to the youth at the grand finale of the Punjab Hockey League 2025 at Surjit Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar, he said that Punjab’s proud history is deeply connected with sports, and soon the state will become number one in the country for sporting achievements.
International-Level Stadiums in Amritsar and Jalandhar
CM Mann announced that international-standard cricket and hockey stadiums will be built in Jalandhar and Amritsar soon. He said the government is taking big steps to make Punjab the “Sports Capital” of India and a global hub for sporting events. Calling the Punjab Hockey League a historic step, he added that it is the country’s first junior hockey league and the one offering the highest prize money. This event, he said, has united three generations of hockey players on one platform, showing that the passion for sports still runs strong in Punjab.
Punjab’s Strong Legacy in Hockey
Mann reminded everyone that nine out of the 18 players in India’s Asia Cup-winning hockey team were from Punjab. The same was seen during the last two Olympic Games, where India won medals. He said this clearly proves the strength of Punjab’s sporting talent. Jalandhar, he added, is already known across the world as the “Sports Capital.”
3,000 Stadiums to Strengthen Sports Infrastructure
Talking about sports infrastructure, the Chief Minister said that in the coming years, over 3,000 sports stadiums will be built across Punjab. He highlighted that sports have become a powerful tool in the fight against drug abuse, and it is heartening to see that the youth of Punjab are once again filling the playgrounds. Mann also mentioned that Burlton Park is being developed as a sports center, and a world-class sports hub will be set up in Amritsar. He further stated that Punjab will regain its top position in the sports equipment manufacturing sector, as Jalandhar has long been linked with major international sports events.
New Initiatives for Youth and Player Recognition
On this occasion, Cabinet Minister Aman Arora announced a new plan for the youth. He shared that the newly constructed bus stand in Sunam is a special project that includes passenger and trade facilities on the ground floor and a modern sports hall on the first floor. The hall will support sports like kabaddi, judo, wrestling, and karate. This is the first project in India that combines transport and sports for the overall development of the community. CM Mann also said that his government has made every effort to honor athletes. Several players, including nine hockey stars, have been appointed as DSPs and PCS officers, showing the government’s dedication to recognizing sports talent. Olympians representing India in international tournaments have also been honored by the state. In the end, Chief Minister Mann declared that just as Punjab has taken the lead in governance, health, and education, it will soon become India’s biggest sports hub. Under his vision, world-class sports infrastructure will rise in Amritsar and Jalandhar, and every village in Punjab will become a new home for sporting excellence.
