Punjab News: The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has introduced major changes in the education sector, setting a new example for the country. During the state-level World Teachers’ Day celebration at Sri Anandpur Sahib, the Chief Minister called teachers “builders of the nation” and encouraged young people to reconnect with Punjab’s rich heritage. Chief Minister Mann said that teaching is not just a job but “a noble mission to shape students’ futures.” Being the son of a teacher, he shared his personal understanding of the dedication and hard work teachers put into guiding their students. He also announced that after 55 years, the government has started building a heritage corridor to Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib in Sri Anandpur Sahib. This initiative aims to connect young people with Punjab’s historical and religious roots. Mann urged teachers to help students learn about Punjab’s proud history and culture, ensuring that future generations respect traditions while embracing modern knowledge.

Teachers’ Courage During Disasters

The Chief Minister praised teachers who went above and beyond during recent flood disasters. He mentioned that the floods damaged 3,200 government schools, 19 colleges, 8,500 kilometers of roads, and 2,500 bridges. Despite these challenges, Punjab’s teachers and citizens showed remarkable courage and responsibility. “Such dedication is rare—Punjab’s teachers are not just educators, they are true guides of society,” Mann said. During the event, 71 teachers were honored with State Teacher Awards for their outstanding work in shaping students’ lives. Mann explained the meaning of the word “Guru,” which comes from Sanskrit—“Gu” (darkness) and “Ru” (remover), highlighting how teachers spread knowledge and enlightenment in society.

Modern Education Reforms

Chief Minister Mann shared the government’s efforts to raise the standard of education in Punjab to international levels. A total of 234 principals and education officers received training in Singapore, 152 headmasters completed advanced coaching at IIM Ahmedabad, and 144 primary teachers trained at Turku University in Finland, with another batch set to go in November. To allow teachers to focus on teaching, 1,920 campus managers have been appointed to handle administrative work. Under the “Education Revolution” launched in 2022, 118 Schools of Eminence have been set up with ₹231.74 crore invested so far. These schools provide high-quality education for children from poor and middle-class families, and even private school students are now seeking admission, showing the success of the Mann government’s initiatives. Students from these schools have performed exceptionally in national exams like NEET, JEE, CLAT, and NIFT, including 265 qualifying for JEE Mains, 44 for JEE Advanced, and 848 for NEET.

Mentorship and Parent Participation

Mann highlighted the School Mentorship Program, where civil officers guide students in government schools. Parent-Teacher Meetings have also grown in participation, with over 2.5 million parents attending PTMs at 19,200 government schools. Mann emphasized that the dedication of teachers, the hard work of students, and government support will together raise Punjab’s future to new heights. The event was attended by Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, MP Malvinder Singh Kang, and senior officials. The Mann government’s celebration sent a strong message of “Prosperous Punjab through Education”—a vision of a state where every child becomes educated, self-reliant, and proud of their heritage.
