Kolkata Fire: Wow Momo' Manager and deputy manager arrested, death toll reaches 25

Kolkata: The Kolkata Police on Friday arrested two employees of the food chain Wow Momo, following a massive fire that killed 25 people in the Anandapur area of South 24 Parganas.

Who all are arrested?

The manager and deputy manager of the food chain Wow Momo in Kolkata's Anandapur were arrested on Friday, according to police.

The Narendrapur police arrested the warehouse manager, Manoranjan Sheet and deputy manager, Raja Chakraborty on Thursday night during a raid. 

Both the arrested employees will be produced before the Baruipur Sub-Divisional Court on Friday.

Earlier, the police had also arrested the owner of the decorator' godown, Gangadhar Das.

How many people died in the accident?

On the morning of Republic Day, a massive fire engulfed the factory and warehouse of a the food chain Wow Momo and decorator's warehouse in the Anandapur area of South 24 Parganas.

According to officials, the fire first broke out in a godown belonging to decorators at around 3 am on Monday and then spread to the other warehouse of the Wow Momo.

There were about 37 workers present in the two godowns and only three employees, who were in the Wow Momo unit managed to escape.

So far, at least 25 have lost their lives the warehouse fire incident.

What did the Wow Momo say?

On January 28, the Wow Momo issued an statement, stating the two of their employees and one contracted security guard have died in the accident. The company also announced that it would provide compensation of Rs 10 Lakh to each family of the three deceased and a lifetime monthly salary.

Taking to X, Wow Momo shared the statement with the caption, "A heartbreaking loss that has left us deeply saddened. We grieve the passing of three valued lives and extend our deepest condolences to their families. We stand together in prayer, support, and responsibility."
