New Delhi: Monsoon has now become fully active in most parts of the country. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), there will be heavy rain in many states of Northeast, East, West and South India on June 23. There is also a possibility of storms, strong winds and lightning in many areas. Warning of heavy to very heavy rain has been issued in some states. IMD has advised people to keep an eye on weather-related warnings.

Why alert of heavy rain in Northeast India?

Light to moderate rain is likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura in the next 24 hours. Also, heavy to very heavy rainfall may be recorded in many districts. Monsoon activities will also remain intense in Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. The risk of landslides in hilly areas and waterlogging in low-lying areas may increase.

How will the weather be in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa?

The effect of monsoon will intensify in Western India. Heavy rain may occur in many parts of Maharashtra, Goa and South Gujarat. There are chances of widespread rain in Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh also. IMD has advised taking special precautions in coastal areas. Fishermen have been instructed not to venture into the sea as the sea may remain rough.

How will the weather pattern change in North India?

Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir may receive light to moderate rain with strong winds. The combined activity of western disturbance and monsoon will bring down the temperature. This will give people some relief from the heat. Roads in hilly states can be slippery, so travel with caution.

Why are people surprised by snowfall in Himachal in June?

There was sudden snowfall in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. The Dalhousie-Lakkamandi-Khajjiar road had to be closed for some time. Many tourist vehicles faced traffic jams. Tourists were happy to see snow in June. Later the administration cleared the road and restored traffic. The weather department says that this happened due to western disturbance in the high-altitude areas.

What will be the condition of monsoon in the coming days?

According to IMD, monsoon will remain active in many parts of the country for the next few days. There may be incidents of heavy rain, storms and lightning. IMD has advised that people keep checking weather updates and follow the guidelines of the local administration. Leave the house only when necessary and avoid waterlogged roads.
