Red Alert in Uttarakhand: Heavy Rainfall Disrupts Chardham Yatra

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several districts in Uttarakhand amid continuous torrential rainfall. Districts under alert include Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pauri, Nainital, Bageshwar, Almora, and Champawat. The IMD’s warning indicates the possibility of extremely heavy rain over the coming days, raising the likelihood of flash floods, landslides, and widespread disruptions.

Chardham Yatra Temporarily Suspended for Safety

In light of worsening weather conditions, the Uttarakhand government has suspended the Chardham Yatra—an annual pilgrimage to the revered Himalayan shrines. Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey appealed to pilgrims to avoid traveling beyond Rishikesh.
