Karnataka Set For Leadership Shift? DK Shivakumar Likely To Succeed Siddaramaiah
Recently, Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar arrived in Delhi, where they held a marathon meeting lasting nearly six hours with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal, and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Surjewala.
New Delhi: The discussion of changing the chair is in full swing in Karnataka Congress. The talk of giving command to Deputy CM DK Shivakumar in place of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has now come out of the inner circle. If sources are to be believed, the Congress high command is serious about changing the leadership and the round of meetings regarding this has intensified in Delhi. The commotion is clearly visible in the party.
What happened in the 6-hour meeting in Delhi?
Recently Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar reached Delhi. An about 6-hour-long marathon meeting was held here with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Surjewala. It is being told that the biggest issue of the meeting was the change of leadership. During this, Rahul Gandhi also met Siddaramaiah separately. Everyone's eyes are on what was decided behind closed doors.
Will Siddaramaiah be sent into national politics?
Sources are saying that Rahul Gandhi has offered Siddaramaiah to play a national role in the party. Preparations are on to send him to Rajya Sabha. A reply has been sought from Siddaramaiah within a week. It is also being discussed that after talks with Rahul, Siddaramaiah has agreed to leave the chair. That is, behind the scenes the deal is considered almost confirmed.
Why did the discussion about DK Shivkumar becoming CM intensify?
When the Congress government was formed in Karnataka in 2023, the formula of two and a half years came into existence. This agreement was reached between Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar regarding the chair. Now the government has completed three years. In such a situation, the high command now seems to be in favor of making DK Shivkumar the CM. The same message has been sent among the workers too that the time has come.
Was there an attempt for change earlier also?
Even before this there was talk of changing the leadership several times. But Siddaramaiah was not ready. The high command also did not want to take any decision without his consent. The reason is clear: There is a large section of MLAs with Siddaramaiah in the Assembly. But now the situation seems to be changing.
What did the Congress leaders say openly?
After the meeting, KC Venugopal told the media that the talk of change of leadership is just speculation. According to him, only Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council seats were discussed in the meeting. But party insiders are telling a different story. He claims that preparations for the change of power are almost complete. Only formal announcement is left.
What can happen next?
If sources are to be believed, Siddaramaiah may resign in the next few days. The process of Rajya Sabha elections is starting from June 1. It is believed that during that time he can file nomination for Rajya Sabha. After this DK Shivkumar can take oath as Chief Minister. If all goes according to plan, Karnataka will get a new CM in June.
