Jammu to Rajasthan Borders on High Alert: Punjab, Bengal Cancel Officers’ Leaves
India’s western frontier, from Jammu to Rajasthan, is under high alert as of May 10, 2025, amid escalating tensions with Pakistan following Operation Sindoor’s missile strikes. The Punjab and West Bengal governments have canceled leaves for all officials to ensure robust security and administrative readiness, as Pakistan’s aggressive drone attacks and shelling intensify along the Line of Control (LoC).

Heightened Border Vigilance
The 3,323-km India-Pakistan border, particularly the 1,070-km Rajasthan and 532-km Punjab stretches, faces unprecedented security measures. Pakistan’s failed drone and missile assaults on 26 Indian sites, coupled with heavy firing in Poonch and Kupwara, have prompted the Indian Army to deploy additional troops and advanced systems like the S-400. In Jammu, explosions in Samba and Akhnoor have led to blackouts and evacuations. Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer and Barmer districts report increased Border Security Force (BSF) patrols, with 72% of border outposts on round-the-clock surveillance, as per updates on X.

Officer Leave Cancellations
To maintain operational efficiency, Punjab’s six border districts—Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, and Fazilka—have recalled all police and administrative personnel. West Bengal, though distant from the conflict zone, has followed suit to support national security efforts, ensuring officers are available for potential contingencies. This move affects over 15,000 personnel across both states, with Punjab’s DGP issuing orders for heightened patrolling near strategic sites like the Beas BrahMos facility, falsely claimed as hit by Pakistan.

Civilian and Infrastructure Safety
Border communities face disruptions, with schools closed and night curfews in place. Over 8,000 residents have been evacuated from Rajasthan’s border villages, and Punjab’s airports, including Amritsar, remain under restricted operations. Public advisories on X urge reporting of suspicious activities, fostering community cooperation. The Coast Guard has also tightened Maharashtra-Gujarat maritime borders, reflecting a comprehensive security approach.

Rajnath Singh Reviews Military Operations
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s ongoing reviews with military chiefs underscore India’s readiness. Internationally, the US and UN call for de-escalation, but Pakistan’s continued aggression complicates diplomacy. As India fortifies its borders, the cancellation of officers’ leaves ensures a unified, vigilant response to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty and citizens.
