After becoming a double engine government, the BJP government of Delhi is now moving forward on all its schemes. These schemes include the scheme of issuing unique IDs to the people of Delhi. This scheme, which has been lying on paper for years, is now likely to move forward rapidly. This ambitious initiative, announced during a press conference, will integrate all citizen-related data into a single, secure digital ID, enabling Delhiites to access services like healthcare, education, and public welfare with a single click. Gupta described the move as a cornerstone of her ‘Viksit Delhi’ vision for efficient and transparent governance.

Survey to Kickstart the Process
To implement the unique ID system, a comprehensive citywide survey will commence within weeks, targeting Delhi’s diverse population of over 20 million. The survey will collect essential details such as address, occupation, and existing government scheme enrollments, ensuring no resident is left out. Gupta assured that data privacy will be prioritized, with robust cybersecurity measures to protect personal information. The unique ID will link to the Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System, streamlining complaint resolution and service delivery.

Enhancing Accessibility and Efficiency
The unique ID aims to simplify interactions with government services, reducing bureaucratic hurdles. Residents will be able to access ration cards, voter IDs, health insurance, and utility services through a single digital platform. “No more running from office to office; one click will bring all services to you,” Gupta stated, emphasizing the system’s user-friendly design. The initiative also seeks to ensure equitable access for marginalized communities, with special provisions for slum dwellers and migrant workers during the survey phase.

A Step Toward Digital Delhi
This move aligns with national efforts to digitize governance, drawing inspiration from Aadhaar but tailored to Delhi’s unique needs. Gupta highlighted that the ID system will also aid in urban planning by providing accurate demographic data. As Delhi gears up for this transformative step, the initiative promises to redefine citizen-government interactions, positioning the capital as a model for smart, inclusive governance.
