Another Kolkata Horror: IIM Calcutta Student Raped, Accused Held for Assault
Just two weeks after a shocking gang rape case at a Kolkata law college, another disturbing incident has emerged at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta.

According to the victim’s complaint filed at Haridevpur Police Station, the accused invited her to discuss academic stress, only to offer her a drink laced with intoxicants. Disoriented, she was unable to resist the assault. The survivor, a first-year student, reported the incident on July 10, leading to the swift arrest of the accused on July 11. Kolkata Police have sealed the crime scene and are collecting forensic evidence, including CCTV footage and medical reports, to build a watertight case.

The incident has triggered widespread anger, with students and activists protesting on the IIM Calcutta campus, demanding stricter safety protocols. Social media platforms like X are flooded with posts condemning the assault, with hashtags like #JusticeForIIMCVictim trending. The case follows the brutal gang rape at a Kolkata law college on June 10, amplifying fears about women’s safety in educational institutions. The IIM-C administration has suspended the accused and formed an internal committee to probe the incident.
Student Lured for Counselling
The assault highlights systemic issues in campus security, including lax hostel regulations and inadequate oversight. Students have criticized the lack of mandatory gender sensitization programs and 24/7 counseling services. The West Bengal government has promised to expedite the investigation and ensure justice, with Women’s Commission officials visiting the campus on July 12.
