Amit Shah introduced a bill in Lok Sabha to remove PM and CM in criminal cases; the ruling and opposition parties created a ruckus
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday introduced a bill in the Lok Sabha to remove from their posts the prime minister and chief minister who are arrested for serious crimes.

National News: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday introduced a bill in the Lok Sabha to remove the Prime Minister and Chief Minister from their posts if they are arrested for serious crimes. As soon as the bill was introduced, there was a lot of uproar in the Lok Sabha. Opposition MPs Asaduddin Owaisi, Manish Tiwari, NK Premachandran, Dharmendra Yadav, and KC Venugopal strongly opposed this bill, calling it unconstitutional. Shah said that all three bills will be sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for further discussion.
Did you resign as the Home Minister of Gujarat?
While the opposition opposed this bill, Congress MP KC Venugopal asked Shah whether he had resigned on moral grounds while being the Home Minister of Gujarat. The Lok Sabha MP from Alappuzha, Kerala, said that BJP people are saying that this is to bring morality into politics. So the Home Minister should say whether he had resigned on moral grounds when he was the Home Minister of Gujarat and was arrested.
Yes, I resigned.
Shah strongly opposed Venugopal and said that I had resigned from the post of Home Minister of Gujarat on moral grounds and did not take any constitutional post until I was acquitted by the court. Opposition MPs tore the three bills and threw them in front of Shah. Seeing the uproar, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla dissolved the House.
Bills weaken people's right to choose government
Opposing the bills, Owaisi said that these bills violate the principle of separation and weaken the people's right to choose the government. He said that this bill gives a free hand to the agencies to become judge and executioner on the basis of frivolous allegations and suspicions. He further said that this government is bent on creating a police state. This will be the death knell hammered on the elected government. The Constitution of India is being amended to turn this country into a police state.
Bills Empower Removal Of Leaders
Let us tell you that three bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha: the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill 2025, the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill 2025, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill 2025. These bills give the power to remove the prime minister, chief minister, and ministers from their posts if they are detained for 30 days.
