Sudden Flood in Swat River Kills 18 Tourists, Search for 14 underway

A devastating flash flood in the Swat River, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, swept away 18 members of a family from Sialkot during a tourist visit. A Sudden Catastrophe

The family, enjoying a riverside breakfast near Bahrain in Swat, was overwhelmed by rapidly rising waters around 8 am. Local authorities reported that the group, comprising men, women, and children, had no time to escape as the river swelled due to torrential rains. The flood, described as a “wall of water” by eyewitnesses, washed away the entire group. The incident occurred despite a flood warning issued earlier, highlighting the unpredictability of monsoon-driven disasters in the region’s mountainous terrain.

Rescue Efforts Underway

 By Friday afternoon, four bodies—two children and two women—were recovered near Kalam and Madyan. The search for the remaining 14, complicated by strong currents and ongoing rain, continues at five key sites. Drones and boats are being deployed, but poor visibility and debris pose significant challenges.

The tragedy has left Sialkot and Swat in shock, with families and locals gathering to support the rescue mission.
