Russia's entry into Indo-Pak tension! Foreign Minister Lavrov speaks to Jaishankar, reminds him of Shimla Agreement

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called for resolving differences between New Delhi and Islamabad through political and diplomatic means on a bilateral basis in accordance with the Simla Agreement of 1972 and the Lahore Declaration of 1999.

 Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov called India's External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar over phone following the Pahalgam terror attack that took the lives of 26 individuals. Following which India has moved quickly and made a number of hard decisions against Pakistan, such as cancelling the Indus Water Treaty. Russian Federation Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke on the phone on Friday. Foreign ministers discussed matters of Russia-India cooperation today and strengthening India-Pakistan ties in the aftermath of the terror attack near the Pahalgam town.

Delhi-Islamabad differences

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov urged settlement of differences between New Delhi and Islamabad through political and diplomatic means bilaterally in line with the Simla Agreement of 1972 and the Lahore Declaration of 1999. The Ministers also exchanged views on the schedule of future contacts at the highest and higher levels.

India's response to the Pahalgam attack

Since the Pahalgam attack, India has implemented a number of hard actions such as suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, shutting down the Integrated Check Post on the Attari border and scaling down staff in the two nations' High Commissions. India revoked every type of visa issued to Pakistanis and asked them to vacate India by April 30. Apart from that, India has sealed its skies for Pakistan Airlines flights too.

A decisive stance was taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi against terrorism while attending a decisive security meeting on April 29. He has been quoted, as per reports, as having said that the armed forces completely have the prerogative of selecting the medium, target and time to attack back against the Pahalgam terror strike. It's our national intention to eliminate terrorism.
