S Jaishankar in Beijing: India Seeks to Mend Ties After 2020 Galwan Standoff
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Beijing on July 13, 2025, marking his first visit to China since the deadly 2020 Galwan Valley clash that plunged India-China relations to a historic low.

International News: . Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has reached China for the first time in five years. This visit is taking place at a time when the 2020 Galwan Valley clash had deeply hurt India-China relations. This visit has raised hopes of reducing tensions between the two countries. China's military support to Pakistan after the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack has also become a cause of concern for India.
S Jaishankar's China Visit
Jaishankar is on a two-nation tour.He will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) foreign ministers' meeting in Tianjin on Tuesday and will also meet his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.This visit, part of a two-nation tour including Singapore, seeks to reduce border tensions and restore bilateral trust. Jaishankar’s agenda includes a bilateral meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and participation in the SCO Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Tianjin.
India-China Relations
The standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) led to military build-ups and stalled dialogue. Jaishankar’s visit builds on these efforts to ensure peace along the LAC and normalize relations.
Recent Chinese assistance, including drone supplies and joint military exercises, has heightened tensions, particularly after the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack linked to Pakistan-based groups. India views this as a destabilizing factor in the region, and Jaishankar is expected to raise the issue firmly during talks, urging China to reconsider its strategic alignment with Pakistan.
