Bollywood stars criticize Supreme Court’s Delhi stray dog removal order, John Abraham writes to CJI

Supreme Court’s order to move stray dogs from Delhi-NCR to shelters angers Bollywood stars, who call it inhuman and suggest sterilization, vaccination, and better monitoring as humane alternatives.

Entertainment news: In view of the increasing number of stray dogs in Delhi-NCR and deaths due to rabies, the Supreme Court gave an important decision on August 11. The court ordered that all stray dogs be removed from public places and kept in shelter homes. After this order, a debate broke out across the country, and a sharp reaction was seen, especially from the Bollywood world.

John Abraham's letter to CJI

Actor and animal rights activist John Abraham has written a letter to the Chief Justice of India (CJI), B.R. Gavai, demanding a review of this decision. He described the court's order as 'irrational and inhuman.' He wrote in his letter, "These dogs in Delhi are not 'stray' but community dogs, which are adopted and loved by the local people."

John said that this decision violates the 'Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules 2023,' which makes sterilization and vaccination of dogs mandatory, not their forced removal. He also gave the example of large-scale sterilization in Jaipur and Lucknow, which has reduced the incidents of biting. On the contrary, displacement may bring more unsafe, unvaccinated dogs, which will increase the danger further.

Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor react

Bollywood actors Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor also protested the court's decision on Instagram. They called it a "death sentence for all dogs." Both wrote in a shared post, "They call it danger; we call it heartbreak."

Veer Das appealed to the people

Comedian and actor Vir Das appealed to people on Instagram to adopt Indie dogs from the streets of Delhi. He wrote, "These dogs are low maintenance, healthy, and extremely loyal." He also appealed to people to help nearby animal welfare organizations.

Sanya Malhotra's emotional message

Actress Sanya Malhotra also expressed her feelings through her Instagram story. She wrote, "These dogs are not just stray animals. They are companions who sit outside shops, wait for children, and keep people company when they are lonely." She advocated mass sterilization, vaccination, community feeding zones, and adoption as a solution, not captivity.

Supreme Court Orders Dog Shelters

On the instructions of the Supreme Court, shelters with a capacity of 5,000 will be built in Delhi-NCR within six to eight weeks. These will have facilities for vaccination and sterilization. Along with this, a helpline and CCTV surveillance have also been provided for reporting incidents of dog bites.
